NAMES ON A PAGE
When you look at a census or a parish register,
Are they just names, or does something in you stir?
Are they mere statistics, folks now long since gone?
Or anxious souls waiting for their work to be done?

Just imagine waiting, year after endless year, knowing
The truth, but cannot take one step forward, waiting,
Hoping someone will find you, send you on your way
To happiness and freedom, I wonder how hard they pray?

Sometimes something prompts you to search for a name,
A voice within you whispers, please go and look again,
Sad and lonely voices trying to reach some-ones heart,
Will we listen, then hear and go on to do our simple part?

Come to the temple all who can, set someone free today,
Do not put it off, saying, others can do it anyway,
Others may think the same and so the waiting goes on,
Please help to set them free, you be the willing one.

There is no reward given, no seen thanks on this earth,
But I am sure there’ll be rewards in heaven of great worth,
Listen to those promptings that whisper to your tender heart,
Come and do the work, come often and do your precious part.
