JERUSALEM Painting by J Fairman,
When Jesus wept over this supposed holy city,
Was it from hurt and sorrow, or from pity?
He longed to teach, yet most would not listen,
Tears must have flowed and wet eyes glisten.
Not one knowing or caring that His time had come,
His flock not knowing His voice, as if He were dumb,
The Redeemer of the world with a broken heart,
Because dear Jerusalem did not want any part
Of the truth and the light that came to stay,
The city so proud sent Him and His message away.
Away to die beyond their harsh city great wall,
There hung on the cross to save that city from the fall.
Oh, Jerusalem, even today peace cannot truly be.
Does He still weep and His heart still bleed for thee?
The peaceful picture on the temple wall one day will be,
When he comes the second time to set His city free.
