THE BAPTISM OF JESUS

Hundreds saw it happen, as they waited patiently
For their turn to be baptized in far off Galilee,
They saw Him enter the water to obey God’s will,
He that was perfect, but all laws would willingly fulfill
By being baptized by His cousin, just to do what’s right,
Obey God’s every word, shine with pure, perfect light.

He did not say such words as, “That does not mean me.
For I am free from all sin.” No, he followed so willingly,
How His Father must have felt as he obeyed every law,
This, His only begotten, pure and free from any flaw,
Did the Father’s will, His true joy he could not hide,
For the Father’s voice was heard both far and wide.

Are we like our Saviour always doing God’s will?
Obeying His sacred words all righteousness to fulfil,
Or do we say in pride of heart, “That does not mean me.”
And do our own thing wandering off thoughtlessly.
When I see the picture of Jesus, so humble and pure,
I’ll try to follow His footsteps, so Him I may always adore.
