SIMEON AND THE CHRIST CHILD.

Cradled in his arms, the one he had been waiting for,
The child born in the stable and shepherds did adore,
A promise kept by God to a servant valiant and true,
For now he could rest, for the Saviour now he knew.

Cradled in his arms, the new born King of Kings,
Did he know of the blessings the child would bring?
Was his insight pure, the priest Simeon of old?
Did he understand Isaiah and a vision unfold?

Cradled in his arms, the precious babe of Bethlehem,
Known since Adam that one day the child would come.
I’m sure he went home rejoicing, praising God on high,
And was now ready to meet his God and happily die.

When his old lips uttered that scripture so well known,
“Now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace,” no longer alone,
The babe he cradled in those knowing arms, once strong,
Could now proceed heavenward, to join the waiting throng.
