TRIUMPHAL RIDE INTO JERUSALEM

He rode into Jerusalem many palms waving high,
Everyone shouting “Hosanna” as Jesus passed by.
Robes were placed before Him, they praised their King,
They came hearts rejoicing, a conqueror they did bring.

See the streets crowded, throngs of many people excited,
Jesus would free them from their enemies and dread,
When would He strike them down, come to His throne?
When would He put things to rights, claim His own.

“Look! here comes Jesus, hosanna to His great name,”
He heals the sick, feeds thousands, His kingdom He will claim.
But little did they realize His kingdom was not of this earth,
His kingdom is in Heaven and is of much greater worth.

Look! They come rejoicing, hands held high in grand acclaim,
Praising with mighty voices, praises to His great name.
Were they disappointed when the enemies He did not destroy,
But came in gentle glory, God’s great purpose to employ.

On the great day of triumph one great shout of praise,
Before He started His final week of His earthly days,
They would be days of sorrow, days of agony and pain,
Days of sacrifice of self, for all mankind eternal life to gain.
