ALONE FOR CHRISTMAS
Listen! Do you hear them? Footsteps in the snow,
I hope they come to my door, the one with the red bow.
Is that someone knocking? I will go and take a look,
Noone there, still alone, Ill go back to reading my book.
Listen to the carolers singing in the street, going door to door,
I have some cookies and punch ready, and many things more
If they stop at my house, I hope they stay for a little while,
But they walked past all of them wearing a big happy smile
Heres the mailman coming clumping up the snowy street
When he drops the mail, he can have a warm mince pie to eat,
There he goes past my pretty door, not even a bill came today
But if I sit here and watch someone might come in and stay.
Listen, theyre coming home next door, listen to the happy noise,
They have a pretty girls and a couple of handsome young boys,
They cleared my snow the other day, but they did not call in,
Theres gifts under my tree and cookies in a Christmas tin.
Listen was that the phone, no just one on the old radio,
If noone calls this Christmas it will be a terrible blow.
But Ill keep waiting by the window and someone may just call
But I will have a Christmas, though it will be very small
For my heart is full of giving, But there are few left to give,
My hearts still loves Christmas and the message that tells us live
As a Christian should, but a smiling face would lighten my heart
And fill me with joy, and then of Christmas I would be part.
