OUR SAVIOURS LOVE
Can we as mere mortals ever understand
The love our dear Saviour can command?
Can we comprehend His great compassion
Shown throughout His short mortal mission?
Even before we think of His sacrifice so pure,
Let us think what He did for rich and poor.
He taught in ways that all could understand,
Wandered many miles over hot desert sands.
To many He said come follow me, this day,
Both rich and poor were willing to obey,
Peter, his brother, Matthew, men of means
Gave up their professions easily it seems.
He healed the sick, teaching all the time,
Even with sinful men did stop and dine.
Never turned anyone away, even when worn,
He even wept for Jerusalem one early morn.
Remember the gathering when He broke bread?
Passed the cup around to friends with bowed head.
Remember how a friend kissed Him on the cheek?
Just for money and maybe also fame to go and seek.
Imagine the love and suffering in Gethsemane,
Agony beyond belief suffering for sin willingly.
Can we know what he went through all alone there
And think of the fervent anguish of that sad prayer?
Love shone in His eyes when they cried crucify!
No words of anger came, He did not scream and cry,
But bore the burdens well just before he did die,
Were His kind deeds forgotten by the passers by?
As each nail was driven, tearing flesh and skin,
The Son of God suffering, He, free from all sin,
His love had Him call out Father forgive them,
They know not what they do did not condemn.
Thought of His mother standing suffering there,
Ended His life with an offering in sweet prayer.
Can we as mere mortals comprehend the love?
No, we will have to wait until heaven above.
