JESUS TOOK BREAD Matt 26:26
With love and solemnity He took the bread,
He broke it, then blessed it with bowed head,
Did He now feel the start of the great suffering
As He tried to teach His disciples understanding?

Those hands that broke bread had raised the dead,
Hands that broke bread, blessed fish and many fed,
His hands had healed and blessed the needy and poor,
Hands clasped in earnest prayer as God He did adore.

Soon those hands would be driven with cruel nails,
Borne with strength and with love that never fails,
So when we take the sacrament remember His hands,
Healing, blessing, suffering, one day we’ll understand.
