FOLLOW HIS EXAMPLE
Sometimes we know that trouble is coming,
and we pray that it might pass by
Without causing us too much pain or sorrow,
not have our hearts give a sigh.
When much sickness comes into our happy lives,
we pray that pain will be taken away,
For we may feel we have had our fare share
of hurt along lives thorny, aching way.

Are these the things we should be praying for?
Or pray for strength to bear the load?
Thy will be done, our dear Saviour always said,
That is the right path that He showed.
For if we wish to gain a celestial home above,
a bright mansion in heavens abode,
We need to follow closely, step by faithful step,
the Saviour’s prayerful, holy road.

He knows just how much rain and sorrow we can bear,
how much load we can carry, for how long,
He’ll give us the strength to endure to the painful end,
as we praise Him with sweet, joyful song.
It is not the smooth path that leads to a lofty goal,
but one that is often strewn with hurt and pain,
Often covered with boulders, fallen trees and pitfalls,
He gives us the courage to raise again.

So although in pain and anguish we may have to live,
suffer hard day after endless day,
Try to remember as we struggle to be cheerful and bright,
for strength and understanding pray.
Think of our Saviour and the example that He always set,
this may be our refiners fire so strong,
He will be by our side, sharing the suffering and pain,
and we will be freed before long.
