WHEN I FIRST KNEW YOU

When I first knew you
I knew you were meant for me.
Your eyes showed a depth of soul
That is known to very few.

I felt your sweet and gentle ways,
I knew your honour and high ideals,
I knew you loved your God above
And wanted to follow Him all your days.

I saw you handle our sick child
With care, not usually found in men,
I loved your strength when I felt weak.
The sparkle in your eye when you smiled

But oh, how these gifts have grown
Over the passing of many happy years,
And made me thank my God in heaven
For all the love that you have shown.

Oh how my rejoicing heart doth beat
Because of our very special love,
I could never, however long I tried,
Thank God enough that we two did meet.
