THE LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER

He was becoming old and feeble, every step a pain
As he struggled up the steps to light the lamp again,
Round and round they twisted, three hundred and three,
Yes, he had made it, to trim the lamp so it shines brightly.

His heart pounding, so he rested before his downward track
To gain some strength in his aching legs, and weakening back,
He knew he had to do it, make the effort every day,
So to guide the ships to safety, show them the right way.

Oh, how the light shines across the dark stormy seas,
It is so dangerous when winds goes to gales from breeze,
He had done his part, his light shines so bright and clear,
Warning folks that sinking sand and viscous rock is near.

Do we look for the light across the storm tossed sea?
Do we heed it’s warning? Finding a way back to thee
Dear Father in heaven, do we think we know the way
Without the light, or even want out in the storm to stay?

Do not let the dear Saviour suffer and die in vain,
Follow His example, this light, eternal blessing to gain,
Turn away from the tempests of life, always choose the right,
Think of the man in the lighthouse, his effort to give us light.
