THE VISION

Hidden in the cloister the young monk prayed.
Lost, in contemplative meditation.
He loved his god and felt at peace
For he had no wicked sin that on his heart weighed

He thanked his God for shelter and warm cloths
His food though plain was sufficient for his need
He looked up from his cloistered spot so small
And wondered for one moment, what was behind those walls.

It seemed in answer to his prayer,a vision came
He saw the master, the dust upon his feet
Hands outstretched to heal, feed and to bless
He turned and faced his friend, Come and do the same.

He feared the vision, strong and sweet though it was,
The outside world was full of sin, hate and cruel men
How could he follow in the saviours steps,to help those
Lost in the world of sin and real wickedness so gross.

He prayed again with a fervent heart, How Can I follow thee?
His eyes were wet as the tears ran down his noble face
The world is wide, your talents great, think of others,
Do it unto the least of these, you do it unto me.

Slowly he stood his head held high,to the abbott he went
The Lord wants me in the world, He wants me to follow Him.
The abbott was old and wise and gave the brother his wish
His worldly goods filled one small bag, he hardly had a cent.

He found his mothers cottage long forsaken, falling down
He fixed it up and made it home, earned money with his hands
One day two young men knocked upon his old front door
Told him the message sweet, a prophet speaks for God again.

He told them of his vision, they taught him all they knew.
He was baptized and studied hard and strived to do God's will.
I will go where ever you want me he sang at church one day.
He knew he would serve a mission, and his testimony grew.
He scrimped and saved and worked real hard for a year or two.
Then went to his bishop and asked him what he should do.
I have enough to serve my God and I will do it willingly
For in my vision years ago,I asked what I should do.

He said that I should think of others and serve only him,
I will serve a mission gladly where ever they will send me
I am older than the others but I know I'll do real well
For this is well thought out not some silly whim.

He served a honourable mission, worked hard both day and night.
He called people to repentance and baptized with all his might.
His acts were full of service, and he never seemed to know fear.
His God was his constant companion,he was a shining light.

When his mission was ended and he returned back home,
He found a sweet companion who he could love eternally.
They were married in the temple, his joy seemed so complete
He thanked his God in heaven for all the joy he had known.

They had a few children to make their lives complete
Served in many callings, was a good neighbour and friend
He never lost the meaning of that vision so long ago
That changed his life for ever, now his God he wants to meet.
