MESSAGES FROM A DREAM.

One night I had a most wonderful dream,
From it a important lesson I learned.
For I stood at the gates of heaven
Carrying the trophies I had earned.

A shining gold medal for a race well run,
A certificate of merit from my old school,
A bank statement showing my wealth
And a wonderful ruby, precious jewel.

But not one of my trophies could open
The gates of heaven to let me enter in,
For nothing of an eternal worth
Was in my worthless trophy tin.

The gatekeeper looked at me kindly
And said, “Work on another trophy tin,
Ones that will unlock the gates of heaven
Then I will surely let you enter in.”

Next morning, I awoke a different being,
For I saw all the errors of may ways,
I wondered what I could do for others
To put some joy into a sad gaze.

I sold my ruby for a small fortune
And gave unknown to charity
That fed cold and hungry children,
My heart felt light and full of glee.

Our family went to an old folks home,
We talked, and helped them laugh and sing,
Listen as many tales of old were told.
What joy we gained from this simple thing.

I thought of things that He would do
If He were standing in my shoes,
On every occasion, whether great or small,
Stop and ask myself, “What would Jesus choose?”

Now as I grow old and more feeble
And I look deep into my trophy tin,
There is still the medal of bright gold
And other earthly treasure I had within,

But now I have added some more treasure
Not counted like money or bright gold.
But lots of small acts of kindness
That may let me enter into the fold.

One night I had another dream,
But this time I did not return
From the gates which my trophies
Opened, which acts of kindness did earn.
