1. HOW FORTUNATE WE ARE

Human beings are so very blessed each day,
No other creatures can talk in the same way
As we can, we are fortunate to have this gift,
Yet do we use words to harm or to give a lift?

The spoken word can heal a heart in pain,
Can in sweet melodic tone bring peace again,
A word of kindness can brighten a dull day,
Make someone laugh with something you say.

A cruel tongue can twist and sour vocabulary,
So instead of kind words, they sting like a bee,
Cut into a tender heart, spoil someone’s day,
Even worse if said in jest, just for fun or play.

Watch the tongue, each word guard with care,
Think what you say before words spill out of there,
If words fall out untethered or in unbridled hate,
You may be the cause of a person’s terrible fate.

Keep sour or bitter words behind your tongue,
And let sweet tender thought’s be gently sung,
People will want to be near you, call you friend,
Someone to turn to for comfort at the very end.

So how fortunate we are to have the gift of voice,
And when we speak always make the wiser choice
Of saying sweet and kind things to those near by,
Instead of words of cruelty we sometimes let fly.
