ART GALLERIES

Through the years I have travelled
And seen art galleries by the score.
Seen paintings by the masters
Who lived long past in days of yore.
I’ve marvelled at the subtle colours
And the content in each frame,
I’ve often longed to own one,
Not a copy, but one of fame.
I knew I never could have such a prize,
Never own a Gainsborough or Gogan,
For they cost more than I can afford.
Yet I have a gallery and I’m its only fan,
Paintings made by the children
From when they were really small,
Now to add to the collection
The grandchildren’s paintings, all
Are preserved with a tender care.
For if one day they become famous,
But that is not why they are saved,
For they speak love in every stroke,
When eyes of brown or blue
Say, “Look I’ve painted this for you.”
