UNUSUAL NAMES
We are going off to Pukatawagan, Puk for short,
No roads except in winter, a train has to be caught,
Other unusual names at small whistle stops are seen,
Isolated places where few white men have ever been.

Pelican Narrows is well of the normal beaten track,
For really unusual names this areas does not lack,
Kikiwak, Wanless and Loucks to mention a few,
I’m sure your head will whirl before the poem’s through.

Athapauskaw Lake, almost blows the human mind,
And what about Iskwasum and other names we find,
Then there is Woosey Lake, another called Ghost lake,
What visions spring to mind, what stories I could make.

Other lakes and some places sound normal enough
With Otter Lake and Lynx Lake, oops Payukblough,
Horseshoes Lake, Emerald Lake, Goose and Egg Lake too
But when you live in Flin Flon no name is strange to you.
