NO WORLD OF MAKE-BELIEVE

Can you imagine a world without make-believe?
How many of us would be really sad and grieve,
No dragons, or unicorns, no elves or little sprites,
No imagination, no exciting things of which to write.

Half my mind would be asleep, part of me not alive,
Although the world is so full of beauty, I thrive
On pretending to be a flower gazing at the sun,
Or being a young creature having lots of fun.

If everything were fact, no fiction anywhere,
We could not see a rainbow that was not there
To cheer when we are down, brighten up a day,
Not see in late winter that spring is on the way.

God gave us minds to explore the land of make-believe,
To see visions in our minds eye and greatness achieve,
An active mind, a mind that can in words paint a scene
That makes people happy, paint a world of might have been.

I am glad for make-believe, I know it is good for me,
I can imagine being an elf high up in a tall tree,
See the world always being kind and good, a world that’s free
And one day my make-believe place will come true you’ll see.
