THUNDER

The thunder clouds rolled in
like stately ships on a deep blue sea.
The thirsting earth waited for the first lightning flash,
The first clap of thunder that would make the torrents fall.
The rain with thunderous applause,
reviving every wilting thing,
every drooping flower,
every thirsty creature,
every blade of grass.
Till everywhere was fresh again.
Fresh again to face the summer sun.
Fresh again to nourish and grow.
Longing now for the sun’s warm rays,
Till earth and plant thirst once more,
And all long to see the thunder clouds
Roll along the oceans of blue sky.
Each laden low with the gift of rain
That will spring forth tumultuously
With that glorious clap of thunder
And the bright lightening’s flash.
