STRANGE HAPPENSTANCE
Everywhere we went was frozen solid
even trucks on the lakes.
Then where Goodman Malign lake
twas free for goodness sakes.
Gushing and rushing and foaming
much too busy to freeze,
Then that current must sink deep,
further on the lake was at it’s ease.
Just a few yards of lake, fighting
so hard to keep free
While the rest was smooth and ice
covered it as thick as can be.
We slowed down, watched and listened,
water gurgled with delight.
“You will not freeze me yet, twill
need a really cold night”
We will come out and see it in about
a week or two or more,
To see if the turbulent lakes are winning,
or what is the score.
It will take a lot of cold and wind
to subdue those waves ,
Yet sooner or later I am sure they’ll
be under frozen graves.
