NO NORTHERN LIGHTS TONIGHT
Just after dark we planned to drive a little way out
So we could watch the northern lights flicker about,
But as we started driving down came the snow,
We wondered if out at all we should bother to go.

Oh, I longed to see all those phantom colours drift
Across a started studded sky, first fall and then lift
High and dance, first with me and then the stars,
Standing quite still in the freezing cold for hours.

I remember them pink and green, blue and gold,
Swaying and intertwining, marvellous to behold,
Sometimes they fall so low raised hands are lost
In all the colours, the multicoloured air full of frost.

I love to see them gliding close to heaven above,
It’s like those gates are opening shedding out love,
Watch them come closer descending like pretty rain,
Kiss the earth for awhile then heaven bound again.

But all we see are snowflakes falling like glittering stars,
They sparkle even brighter in the lights of passing cars,
Please stop snow, let the northern lights peep through,
But your falling white canopy is very beautiful too.
