LONG SHADOWS
When the dark sky is free from cloud and stars are bright,
The moon has sailed in splendour along her course through the night,
Have you noticed as the eastern sky lightening with coming day,
How very long the shadows are as we see the suns first ray?
Have you seen the colours that grace the birth of dawn?
It ever changes the colours of the gently swaying corn.
The dark velvet sky changes to shimmering bright silk.
I wonder if the farmer sees it as his cows he has to milk.
I saw, I gazed and my heart rejoiced at the beauty all around
As day came, drawing very long shadows on the ground.
