        MEASURING SUCCESS
It depends what you measure success by
        to see if you succeeded,
Some things I have done in some eyes
        may go quite unheeded,
For to many people who dwell on earth
        in these greedy days,
It is measured by money and fortune and
        and fame in many ways.
Yet if by a few words of simple poetry
        I made someone smile,
Or given another the strength to go on
        for that hard extra mile.
Brightened a day that to someone was
        all dull and grey,
I have been successful if not in some great
        monetary get rich way.
If a child has been helped by someone’s
        unknown kindly deed,
Dropped a few coins in a cup to help
        a hungry soul to feed,
Success is there, it hidden from the
        public’s bold view,
It is this success that counts when it’s
        just between God and yhou.
