ONSET OF NIGHT
The hustle and bustle of the traffic is gone,
The end of another hectic day has come,
The moon sails in silence across the starry sky,
Theres the hoot of an owl as it flies close by.
The wind sings a lullaby in the tall stately trees,
Making waves swell gently on the mighty seas,
This part of the world in now preparing for rest
As many birds fly home to their comfortable nest.
Yet many folks have no place to pillow their head,
No warm fluffy blanket or nice soft cozy bed,
No roof for shelter or a fireplace bright and warm,
Left out in the night most longing for the dawn.
The peace of the night comes to those without pain,
But hurting bodies and minds want some relief to gain
From elusive sleep that seems always to pass them by
As in suffering through endless night they may lie.
Heartless moon and the cold shining stars so bright
Are unaware of those in pain, the homeless each night,
But we as humans should remember at least in prayer
The homeless and those who hurt, show that you care.
