EYE CONTACT
With people in a hurry something that is hard to do
Is trying to get someone have eye contact with you.
You try to look at them so to give a happy smile,
Maybe cheer them up if needed for a little while.

Head down all seem to be in such a big hurry,
Or bobbing in and out of the crowd in a flurry,
No time to say hello, not seeing as you gaze,
Even the eyes looking up appear in a deep haze.

What do they see through unseeing sighted eyes,
Staring at nothing, will real life come as a surprise?
Eye contact, a nod and a smile isn’t hard to do
Unless the true world is completely lost to you.

I think I caught one set of unseeing eyes today,
A far away glimmer of a smile came my way,
Finances or worry forgotten for a short while
Long enough to realize, it isn’t too hard to smile.
