CHEERFUL CHERUBS
Sweet little girls between the ages of six and ten,
They were called Cheerful Cherubs back then,
When girls wore pretty dresses, liked big bows,
Loved to dress up as many an old picture shows.

They learned how to sew make quilts, stories hear,
Loved to go for long walks so nature to be near,
Now when I look at six to ten year olds today
From wanting to be girly and pretty they stay away.

“My Cheerful Cherub, please set the table for me”
I think most girls today, would look around to see
Who had walked into the room and sat in a chair,
They would never consider themselves to be there.

I may be misjudging today’s young modern lass,
Yet I do not see many on the streets that I pass
Who look cherubic or even want to wear a dress,
Maybe deep inside they do but would not confess.

What has happened to youth who like a tee shirt,
Who have lost the knack of being pretty, can’t flirt
In a nice feminine, unobtrusive old fashioned way
Who dress in sweats, tee shirts and jeans everyday?

Come back Cheerful Cherubs, be little girls once again
Dress up in pretty cool dresses, like way back then
When it was easy to tell the boys from the girls
By the nice little dresses and long flowing curls.
