DOWN IN THE DUMPS
Sometimes we are despondent and down in the dumps,
As miserable as a camel who has lost both of his humps,
Old Satan has managed to get a grip on your tender heart
And so now it is so much harder to your required part.
Why poor old me? Self pity cried out all too loud and clear,
Loud enough to make old Nick give a good laugh and cheer,
A heart that is really down means the soul cannot run free,
It means a life that will soon be full of loneliness and misery.
Who is going to win the battle, who do you think is more strong,
A heart with down in the dumps feelings or a heart full of song?
Shun him away, have the strength with Gods help to fight back,
Gain that great courage that despondency seems to always lack.
See, is that a smile coming through that very sad looking face?
Has the sparkle come back into eyes that lacked Gods grace?
Only you can let that wicked fellow creep into your sweet heart,
Shun him away with a will, so God can use you to do His part.
