DO WHAT WE OUGHT

It is not always easy to do the right thing,
Want to go our own way, happiness to bring,
All of us know what we ought to do today,
But it does not always work out that way.

For it takes strong discipline over oneself,
Putting our own wants on the back shelf
Is not very easy, then put duty to the fore,
But the blessings are there forever more.

Doing what we ought takes full maturity,
A need to develop character and sensitivity,
For maturity is needed in a world of sin,
When doing what we ought, Satan can’t get in.

It takes an understanding of God’s ways,
Knowing that now is important not later days,
The ought to’s will feed you, and you will grow
Close to God and heaven as you onward go.

But most of all it takes real unselfishness,
For the ought to’s in life others always bless,
So with that blessing the giver will grow
Past any measure they could ever know.

Doing what we ought wisdom will bring,
Doing what is right will make your heart sing,
For the wisdom of Solomon is our free gift,
If we do our share of good, our load never shift.

Always find time to do the ought to do’s,
Go through life finding it wise to choose
The things that have to be done each day,
Then all the blessing of heaven will come your way.
