WHAT IF’S AND MIGHT HAVE BEEN’S
Sometimes I stop and think about ‘What if’s and might have been’s’,
How different would have been the pictures in my life’s scenes?
What if my parents had been rich and some famous millionaires,
Changed for dinner every night and have fancy graces and airs.
That brings up many might have been’s and I would not be really me,
Would I have been a debutante with lots of fine clothes and jewelry?
What if I have been born in dark Africa in a hut made of grass,
I might have been dead and gone before my first birthday did pass.
What if I did not marry and made nursing my life and career?
Had no loving husband, or bore no children kind and dear,
It might have been that the Truth would have never come my way,
There might have been no poems, no sweet inspiration day by day.
Each day we make choices, make ‘what if and might have been’s’,
I am so very glad that I chose family and truth in my life’s scenes,
For life has brought me joy, happiness and enough pain to grow,
Of the paths of ‘what if’s and might have been’ I don’t want to know.
