THE WIND, THE SMOKE, THE STACK
For ages we have watch the chimney stack and
the smoke pouring out,
We look to see it change direction, see what happens
when the wind turns about,
Then we noticed something that really made us
stop and contemplate,
The smoke was going right up, no wind about, had
he left for a lunch date?
Or was it a usual shift change like all the other
mine workers do?
For when the wind started blowing, a different
direction it blew.
The North wind had gone home to rest, maybe
gone off to bed,
Or maybe he went home being sick with a nasty
cold in his head.
But whatever the reason the east wind had the next
shift however long,
Ill be glad when the south wind returns from holiday
bringing birds along..
So when you see the smoke rise straight up from
the stack up high,
See which wind takes over the next shift as
you gaze at the sky.
