A COLLECTION OF TOBY JUGS
On a shelf in the den crowded close together,
Not in any order, yet they get along with each other,
Are all our toby jugs glancing down on all who come,
To explain who they are is a source of great fun.

There is Maid Marian and Robin Hood and his men so merry,
Aa well there is the Sheriff of Nottingham, the big baddy.
When the children were small their tale was often told
Using the toby jugs as a new adventure did unfold.

We have characters from Dickens, a favorite author of mine,
Scrooge, Mr McCawber and Fagin, a man full of evil and crime,
They help me remember the stories read many times over again,
Some from Shakespear’s plays, Falstaff, to name but one of fame.

We also have some characters from history, on this shelf of glass
Henry the Eighth and Dick Turpin, and an old pirate with a cutlass,
But, I think my favorite toby jug, yet one of the smallest to see,
Is Mr Winston Churchill, who saw old England through to victory.
