STRANGE THINGS IN THE VILLAGE
Off I went shopping to Clarkson’s village main street,
And you should have seen the strange creatures I did meet,
Elves, gnomes fairies, pixies, witches with green hair,
An alien from outer space, a monster with a scary stare.
Then came a lion, a tiger, elephant and even a kangaroo,
A bear and rabbit, could they have escaped from the zoo?
Not really, it’s lots of children all having lots of fun,
A Halloween tradition that Clarkson village has begun.
The streets are crowded, hundreds of children everywhere,
All carrying goodie bags full of treats for them to share.
Happy smiles as tiny hands clutched candies and balloon,
And shopkeepers take the time their stores to festoon.
Although my children are all grown I had fun today,
Watching all the children dressed up in a special way,
The excitement in each bright pair of young eyes I see,
As they gathered their treasures as happy as could be.
So I say well done Clarkson, for Halloween day,
You’ve made many children happy in a special way,
All it took was a little money and time to organize,
To brighten up the day for the old ones also to prize.
