MID-SUMMER DAY
If you find a fairy ring on mid-summers day,
Why not stay up late and watch the fairies play?
Their music, the hair bells blowing in the breeze,
And they bring tiny shells with the sound of the seas.
It works best if that day falls when the moon is full,
Then how they dance and sing, then life is never dull,
The food made by the fairies is what we dream about,
The best food ever, of that all who know have no doubt.
It is best to creep out at midnight, quiet as a mouse,
Try not to make a noise, turn no light on in the house,
Say their word of welcome, do you want me to tell?
Let you into a fairy secret, the ones who play in the dell.
If they have chosen your garden, look behind the gate,
And written in runes it will be there, do not be late
For it fades away just after the sun awakes in the morn,
There will be no mistaking it, if a ring is on your lawn.
I had a fairy ring in my garden when I was quite small,
Read the runes behind the gate, just before the rain did fall,
As I crept into the garden to see the fairies in the ring,
At the uttering of the words I shrank small and I did sing.
I danced with the fairies and ate their food as well,
I know their meeting places down in the wooded dell,
If you dont believe in fairies it cannot happen to you,
So look on your lawn and magic things may come true.
