KITE FLYING DAY
The day was nice and warm, the wind quite strong,
Perfect weather for kite flying, what could go wrong?
All the school children from grades one up to seven
Made their own kites maybe to reach as high as heaven.
There was excitement as everyone gathered to start,
A wonderful activity to please every childs heart,
Up high they flew, made from all sorts of things,
The principle bought one with big butterfly wings.
The sky was alive with kites all home made, what fun,
The laughter of children as the kites shone in the sun,
All the teachers had loads of fun helping here and there,
But the principles big butterfly did not fly anywhere.
There were paper bags painted with all different things,
Some like fishes, those kites much imagination did bring,
They all danced in the wind, children hanging on tight,
Four hundred kites flying high, it was a wonderful sight.
Yet the principles bought one like a pretty butterfly
Was the only one not seen up there flying high in the sky,
The homemade ones of plastic, paper, glue sticks and string
Soared like mighty birds on some magic outstretched wings.
Every year there should be a fun day homemade kite flight,
A day that is nice and warm and the wind blows just right,
With children from grades one through seven having fun,
Looking upward laughing, worth all the work theys done.
