WORKING IN THE ARCHIVES
Looking at old papers turning brown with age,
Or burnt from the fire, gentle with every page.
Having a smile at fashions and the price of things,
As we catalogued them and so some order bring.

Some papers were loose, others carefully bound,
Now packed away in boxes all safe and sound.
Then lots of old magazines found, all in order now,
We sorted them out into years, with furrowed brow.

Now a new project, sorting out old photos, what a mess,
I hope the dear Lord with us a long active life will bless,
Or at least until we have completed this awesome task,
But I think we’ll take some lunch and a warm flask.

We have so much fun doing this archive volunteer work,
Once we get on a fast roll we really don’t want to shirk,
And we meet so many nice people as we work in the cool air,
There is no danger of falling asleep while working in there.

If ever the photos get sorted out, what else will need to be done,
I wonder when the great sorting battle will be over and won?
But we will keep on coming until our task is all complete
And all working hard for Kathy is just an extra little treat.
