FAMILIAR THINGS
The things that inspire the human heart and mind
Are the everyday things, they seem to leave behind
A lasting impression, so great things are accomplished,
Many books, poems, stories and paintings completed
By those who, with open eyes, see in the mundane things,
Beauty, intrigue, movement and an uncanny way that brings
Joy to many by seeing with those special glances, treasures,
Many did not wander far but close to home things measured.
Monet painted the field of poppies that were near his home,
Wordsworth saw the golden daffodils, not bothering to roam
But just around the corner, by a peaceful lake so still.
Gainsborough painted the hay wain that stopped near the mill
Where his had mother sent him to carry flour home to cook,
Most of Dickens books told us how closely he did look
At the places where he lived, and loved the people he met.
This list could go on, for most authors and painters will,
For the most part, tell of things that in their lives with joy fill.
Wonderful sunsets were painted at the artist’ back door,
A poet inspired by a child playing with a pet on the floor.
Look around and see in the familiar things creativity
And that way find and set your own talents running free.
