Poetry by Ann Margetson         A PURPOSE
Grief and pain have a purpose,
Though at the time you suppose
That there is only the suffering,
But there is many a good thing
Found in anguish and sorrow
That will show up tomorrow.

With grief comes understanding,
A new sharp awareness brings
To a harsh heart that knew no pain,
Now the heart and has a noble aim.

Grief softens a heart made of steel,
Helps that person know and feel
Others needs around them and give
A loving smile, help others live.

Grief gives us resilience to pain,
Help us grow, learn to smile again,
Gives us the courage to keep going on
Until life’s battle is either lost or won.

Yet beware if grief make a bitter heart
And cruelty grows and to a soul impart
A vicious streak that turns you to hate,
Change, prisoner, before it is too late.

Grief will bring courage and understanding,
A tender heart that extra strong love bring,
Makes you a better person, one full of peace
And love, and knowledge that will increase.
