        CHANGES WIN THE WEATHER
There was no sign of stormy weather anywhere at all,
The barometer was showing high on the kitchen wall,
The vivid blue was dazzling in the morning sun,
It seemed as if a wonderful summer had just begun.

A gentle zephyr was teasing the trees from the west,
Not enough to ripple the lakes, they were at their best,
A good day for gardening, or a happy outside chore,
Even washing the paint clean on the stained front door.

Not one cloud was seen, no rumble of thunder heard,
Just the sound of the cheeping chorus from each bird,
We walked along the rim of the lake slowly hand in hand,
Just enjoying the quiet and beauty of this great land.

Suddenly the zephyr blew no more, no birds sang,
Only a very deep silence through the valley rang.
From nowhere the clouds rolled in covering the sun
And before we knew it torrential rain did come.

Grey clouds heavy laden full, water to repress,
Soon we were soaked and me in just a summer dress,
We hurried best we could going homeward bound,
Hoping that some safe shelter could somewhere be found.

Then the white thunder clouds came with great speed,
Now for our safe home there was a great need,
The rain bounded high as it fell way above the knees
And we knew it was not safe to shelter under trees.

Home, safe and sound but shivering and soaked through,
And after drying and changing nothing more to do
Than to watch the storm for the power was all out
And we have to give into nature there is no doubt.
