VANISHING STEPS
We saw some sturdy steps climbing over rocks and stone,
We could not see where they led, maybe someone’’s home,
Or hideaway place, but there they were very plain to see.
We both saw them at different times now we have a mystery.
Every time we travel along that long stretch of road,
We cannot see the steps to that well hidden abode,
But they were there stark and clear against the snow,
Neither of us can figure out where the steps did go.
Every time we take that road we diligently seek
For those rustic steps so long, firm and steep.
But they have vanished to where we do not know,
I have to ask myself where would steep steps go?
No rocks seem high enough to warrant a stairway there
, No embankment or rock face shows itself anywhere,
For our steps to show that we both saw once before,
There has been no earthquake to open up the floor.
Maybe it was a figment of our imagination strong,
If one of us had seen it that may not be wrong,
But two of us at different times saw this phenomenon
So can please someone tell me where the steps have gone?
