GET UP AND GO
I used to rush everywhere like a flea in a fit,
Managing to do lots of things not wanting to sit,
Except for a bite to eat or write a poem or two
But I always kept on going the whole day through.

Up to teach seminary before the crack of dawn,
Stayed up late yet never needed to give a yawn,
Five hours sleep was plenty, kept running all the day,
I often wondered if I was hyperactive in some way.

Up to a couple of years ago I was whizzing all around,
Always found things to do my organization quite sound,
Never enough hours in the day to get everything done,
Yet my list of things to do finished, I nearly always won.

But since my heart attack I had to slow right down,
The driving force is still there but I just sit and frown,
For the energy that surged through me, has mostly gone,
All my get up and go vanished, old age has finally won.

Yet I do not feel old so my can’t I still lift heavy weights,
Clean the home fast cook up a storm, but sit all sedate
Crocheting away or reading and writing more poetry,
All these are fine but I want my old engery back in me.
