WARRENS UNDER THE SNOW
Looking out at the snow glittering and
shining white,
I wonder what might be going on just
out of sight?
Are hundreds of little critters running in warrens
too and fro
Underneath all that cold shining harsh
winter snow?
A small community of mice and other creatures
quite small
Rushing around seeking food not minding the
cold at all,
Are there gathering places like a mall where they
stop and chat?
Asking about each other wondering what happen
to Old Rat.
Telling of each other places where food can be
readily found
So they don’t have to pop their little heads
above ground.
I would love for a moment to shrink and be a
mouse or vole,
Be small enough to wonder through the warrens
down a hole,
Maybe carry in a few seeds for an extra
little treat,
Then hope they make it through the winter, in spring
again to meet.
