LOST DOG
Today I needed inspiration to write a poem or two,
See something to catch my eye, thrills me right through,
Then I saw quite a big dog dragging a long link chain,
He looked lost and frightened, even seemed in pain.
Where did he come from, for how long did he roam,
Had he run away from some cruel unfeeling home,
Was he left outside in all weathers, no shelter at all,
Or are the owners sad he does not come when they call?
He would not come when I called, he just cowered low
And in those sad eyes some fear did quite plainly show,
My heart went out to the lonely dog trembling in the snow,
Then he ran off all day that dog came to my sad mind
I hope that he found shelter and a friend who was kind.
