THE FIRST DAY OF WINTER
We are told by the wise and on the calender too,
Today starts winter I dont think they have a clue,
For the last six or more weeks theres been snow,
Although a few nice mild days did come and go.
In some places this may be true but not in the north,
For winter lasts longer and most enjoy its great worth,
With beauty that stretches everywhere you can see,
As the snow glitters like bright diamonds so prettily.
Ice fishing and skating with grace on every stiff lake,
Going skid-doing, toboggan rides many love to take,
Skiing, cross country and dangerous down hill as well,
See the fun that lots of people and laughter does swell.
Others enjoy the beauty from behind a window pane,
Or drive in the car along a magnificent country lane,
Glance at the forests all clothed in a robe of white,
If you go outside just wrap up with all your might.
At least three more months touching the start of spring,
The calender is all wrong and wrong messages bring.
The end of April may see the start of vanishing snow,
Then dear friends you should see how fast things grow.
