FUNNY WORDS
I wonder if anyone else has funny words they use,
I cant think its only us the true language abuse,
I know children struggle when they learn to talk
And often words stick as through life we walk.
One young grandchild of ours calls gravy, dip,
Now into the vocabulary this saying will slip,
But the area where I came from when I was small
Had some strange words hard to understand by all.
The one that springs to mind and set this poem going,
Was, wait for it, spondulicks, that sets thoughts reeling,
And believe it or not the computer did not underline
This funny fancy special word I thought was mine.
It usually meant money or things of great worth,
To have spondulicks made you the salt of the earth,
Jingle your spondulicks in your pocket or handbag
Meant that day you were rich and wanted to brag.
Nesh is another word that in just Staffordshire is found,
It means you feel the cold or are a mardy, another sound
Not known by many but it means you blart much to soon,
Oh yes, thats a cry baby is the closest I have to presume.
Listen to the words that people say find out what you know,
For I know that there are slang words everywhere you go,
But these are not really slang just comical things we say,
And maybe we may find the origin of them one day.
