More poems about Birth of Jesus.

        LOVED TO HAVE BEEN THERE
I would have loved to have been in the stable all forlorn,
And watch in breathless wonder as the Saviour was born,
Watched with the beasts and witnessed this great sight,
Waited to hear His first cry and wept with all my might.

I would have loved to see the shepherds reverently come in,
The message still ringing in their ears to free them from sin,
Maybe no gifts they brought but a contrite and humble heart,
If they owned the sheep and little lamb these they would impart.

Did the star shine bright enough to give light in the stable bare,
Or was there a small lamp or candle left to help them there?
If I close my eyes many a vision comes to my happy mind,
And I can see a space where I can set, a small seat do find.

A small milking stool near the friendly cow so nice and warm,
Yes, they were safely sheltered free from any outside harm,
Yet a humble stable for Emanuel, our great King of kings,
A certain message is being sent about really important things.

I can see myself looking into the manger full of clean straw,
Stretching out my finger wanting this tiny babe to ever adore,
Yet in the shadow of the stable is that an image of a cross
Or is it just a patched part covered in fresh green moss?
