More poems about Winter.

FIRST REAL SNOW FALL
We’ve had smatterings and flurries, but not a real snow fall
Until this morning and the pretty white stuff came to call,
And this time to stay maybe right through until late spring,
Now we can get on with winter, the trouble and fun it can bring.

The snow plows are clearing the snow away, it still comes down
Hiding the soil and earth, changing to white from a dirty brown,
Even while it is still snowing children having the first snow day
Are out in force sledding using last year’s Christmas sleigh,

Muffled up warm I hope they build many a fat snowman,
As a grey haired granny a little too old I think I really am
To go into the garden and a castle or snow man go and make,
I wonder if I’m too old a snow angel to try and undertake.

Although it’s only November I feel about Christmas as a child,
I am excited to see real snow although the weather’s not mild,
Most of the shopping for gifts is complete and under the tree,
Just a couple more presents and I’ll be as ready as can be.

I’ll now start the cooking of the Christmas candies and cake,
Freeze and hide away mince pies a favourite for me to make,
Then it’s OK to put my feet up and watch the snow flakes fall,
And pray that friends and family will soon come to call.
