More poems about Winter.

         IN DEFERENCE TO WINTER
The snow swirled over the ground like a plague or disease,
Scurried along too fast by the strong blustery, cutting breeze,
The waves on the lake churned being angry taken from there rest,
While the sun up above tried to shine, doing it’s very best.

The naked tall trees show deference to winter’s onslaught,
Gracefully bowing and waving as if being unknowingly caught
In some forced dance of welcome to winter’s cold, cruel icy reign,
And as they performed they try very hard to hide their great pain.

The pines try to protect their companions all naked and cold,
Standing tall and strong covered in snow lovely to behold,
They too sway and bow and honour this too early arrival
And start to make plans for the forest’s struggle for survival.

Humans in homes all warm, both very large and quite small,
Acknowledge their blessing as the cold snow starts t o fall,
The young and the active receive winter with sheer delight,
For sports can be fun and healthy if you bundle up tight.

Just watching the beauty that gathers more lovely each day
Is a blessing enough as we gaze across to the forest and say
“The beauty of winter shines the best and brightest of all”
But we look forward to spring and returning birds call.
