A PAIR OF AMERICAN GOLD FINCH
On the flowering tree in our front yard to day
A rather pretty sight happened to come our way,
A pair of American goldfinches were hopping there
From branch to branch, they seem to have no care.
They have come here for nesting and have a family,
I hope they choose our lovely flowering cherry tree,
They swoop and give a funny tweet as they fly around
And love to eat the dandelions in abundance found.
You should see the male, bright yellow trimmed with black,
And the paler female yet beauty she does not really lack,
Such pretty neighbours to have in our front tree so fair.
Mingled with the blossom it would be a view beyond compare.
The buds are almost bursting, tomorrow they should bloom,
That will surely brighten up any day filled with gloom,
And if the American gold finch stays to live for awhile,
We will surely spend time searching the branches with a smile.
