EMPTY PLACE
An empty place at the table, an empty hanger by the door,
A lonely motionless rocking chair, no shoes on the floor,
Just a feeling of emptiness where a loved one used to be,
Yet it really helped knowing we’d be together for eternity.

There’s no one for Patch to meet, will not hear that call,
But he stays alert, just in case he’ll hear noises in the hall,
The sound of the loved one coming home and there stay,
Poor dog doesn’t know why his friend’s not home each day.

It seems to add to the loneliness as you see him waiting there,
Or sit all sad and pining by the empty unmoving rocking chair,
Yet slowly healing comes as family and friends rally round,
The home did not stay sad long for eternal love did abound.
