ON READING AN OLD LETTER
Sorting out some pictures we found
an old letter or two,
Sent back to England when our days
out here were few.
The warmth and beauty of this land the
friends found everywhere,
A feeling of amazement that we felt in
the fresh clean air.
Reminding us when the children were
all still growing up.
Of all the fresh fruit just picked then often
did hungrily sup,
The size of the lake called Ontario just
like the rolling sea,
The picnic parks and conservation areas
that were all free.
Now I stop and think these things are
now all commonplace,
Although we still enjoy it all, there is no
amazement on my face.
I will do my best to relive those special,
precious early days,
And as I kneel and pray each night for this
country give God praise.
