IN THE GARDEN
Do you know what we saw in the garden today
Peeping through the soil and snow melting away?
Some points of green, the tulips and the daffodil
Just underneath the shelter of the kitchen windowsill,
It means spring is coming fighting winter cold chill.
Do you know what I heard as the sun shone so bright?
The sweet sound of the robin singing with all his might,
A rapturous song that brought spring right to each heart
That heard the melody telling the winter would soon depart,
Soon now the wonderful morning chorus will then start
Today in the garden the squirrels were pairing off,
Sharing nuts together and at winters snow did scoff,
A sure sign of sweet spring when creature fall in love
And new birds are arriving sitting in the trees above,
And in the evening we hear the cooing of the dove.
